White Christmas Project

Dear Community Members,

The Walnut Township Local School District and Millersport Fire Department is proud to begin working on our Annual White Christmas project.

Each year hundreds of dollars that are received in donations are used to buy food to help families in our community, as well as to purchase fruit baskets for our Senior Citizens.

The Student Council, the Class of 2018 and the National Honor Society will work together to make our 46th  anniversary of White Christmas a success. We sincerely hope that we can once again rely on the tremendous support of the community to help us bring the true spirit of the Christmas season to so many.

Statement from Supt. Randy Cotner on 11/5/17

The investigation into the events that took place at Walnut Twp. Schools this past Thursday and Friday is nearing completion.  Working with the Fairfield County Sheriff’s Department, the Millersport Police Department, our own technology department and Google has led us to a point that we feel it is safe to resume school on Monday morning.

Due to the nature of the investigation, we are not allowed to disclose the findings of the investigation at this time.   As soon as we are allowed to legally disclose the findings of the investigation, we will do so.  For OFFICIAL INFORMATION, please refer to the district’s website at www.walnuttsd.org.  DO NOT rely on information you may see on social media to be true.

We look forward to our students returning to school on Monday morning.

Thank you and have a great evening.

November 2, 2017

Dear Walnut Twp. Parents,

As you know, we had a series of events today at Walnut Twp. Local Schools that caused us to go into “Lockdown Mode” twice today.  Here is a brief summary of those events:

1) At approximately 8:28 a.m. this morning, elementary principal Kim Yenni received an email on her work email address that said, “There is bomb”.  We immediately went into “Lockdown Mode”.  The Fairfield County Sheriff’s Department and the Millersport Police Department were dispatched to the schools.  The administration, maintenance staff and law enforcement conducted a sweep of the buildings.  After that initial sweep, a K-9 unit also made a sweep and nothing was found.  At that point in time we resumed normal school operations.

2) At approximately 12:38 p.m. Ms. Yenni received another email stating, “I will kill the kids”.  We immediately went into lockdown again and notified law enforcement.  Law enforcement this time arrived with a heavier presence.    We stayed in lockdown for the rest of the day with law enforcement on-site.  Law enforcement stayed with our students through the end of the school day.

We are working with law enforcement in the investigation of these unfortunate events.  Decisions in these situations are based on keeping our students as safe as possible.  There are protocols we follow.  We practice these drills.  Our students and teachers did an outstanding job of following these protocols.

Thank you for your patience in these trying times.  We will be on a normal school schedule for Friday, November 3, 2017.

Sincerely,

Randy Cotner, Superintendent

Walnut Twp. Local Schools
