Welcome to the
Walnut Township Local School District Website.
We strive to make our website user friendly and to
provide you with helpful information about our district, our
students and staff.
If you have suggestions for improving our website
please contact us.
We very proud of our students, staff and community. Millersport Junior/Senior High School and Elementary are very special places where children receive a host of quality educational opportunities. Our staff is constantly striving to improve the educational experience for our children and we welcome community partners who are willing to assist us in our efforts.
I would like to congratulate our 3rd grade students on their outstanding performance on the Fall Ohio Achievement Assessment in Reading. 29% of our 3rd graders scored at the Advanced Level, 20% scored at the Accelerated Level, 29% scored at the Proficient Level, 11% scored at the Basic Level and 11% scored at the Limited Level. With 78% of our students scoring at the Proficient Level or above it means that our teachers and students are focused on the proper content and instructional practices that lead to improved: acquisition of vocabulary, reading process, understanding of informational text and understanding of various literary texts.
Our teachers are working hard to effectively implement the State of Ohio Revised Standards by developing new pacing charts that will guide their instruction beginning next year. They will be working on developing new short cycle assessments that will help them know what children understand and do not understand. A new on-line state assessment will be implemented in 2014 and I believe the efforts of our teachers now, to develop a quality curriculum, will help children achieve at high levels on said assessments.
With that said, we understand that education is more than achievement on tests. It is important that our students learn leadership, proper social behavior, communication skills, teamwork and the responsibilities of being a contributing American citizen. The freedoms we enjoy are not without costs and our students need to know the importance of “paying forward” to the benefit of the common good.
I am proud of our students efforts to “pay forward” as they prepare for the “White Christmas” efforts in our community. They work very hard collecting funds and contributions of gifts that will help those who are experiencing tough times enjoy a wonderful Christmas. The spirit of caring and giving is alive within our students and staff and it exemplifies what all of us should promote throughout the New Year.
Thank you for your continued support of Walnut Township Local Schools. I wish each of you joy and peace throughout this Christmas season and the New Year!
Dale L. Dickson,
Superintendent
