WTLS Extended Learning Plan

District Leaderhead

Walnut Township Local School District

Extended Learning Plan

 Introduction

Walnut Township Local Schools will be offering a variety of extended learning options for students during the summer of 2021. Millersport Elementary and Millersport Junior-Senior High have each developed a plan to meet the needs of its students. The building principals will be releasing information for registration procedures in the early part of May, 2021. The plan is subject to change as additional information from the Ohio Department of Education is released, Board Approval and availability of staff to provide the necessary services.

Overview

Impacted Students and Needs Assessment

The educational opportunities during the 2020-2021 school year may have led to a need for extended learning opportunities for some students. Walnut Township Local Schools will use diagnostic assessment information from STAR Reading and Math tests, student mastery level, teacher input, retention status, state test results, course grade and graduation pathway to determine students that need additional academic assistance. Millersport Junior-Senior High School will offer credit recovery courses and course advancement courses for those students that did not earn course credit and those seeking to get ahead. The district will conduct a gap analysis between student mastery and Ohio’s Academic Content Standards to design the most critical aspects of content to provide students.

Resources, Budget, Partnerships and Alignment

Students in grades K-8 will engage in face-to-face, onsite learning opportunities while students in grades 9-12 will have a hybrid approach of Florida Virtual School online courses with onsite support being provided. The district will utilize existing partnerships with the Fairfield County Educational Service Center, ST Math, Fairfield Career Center (Summer Program Offerings), and ADAMH. The district will utilize federal ESSER stimulus funding to support students in the summer extended learning program.
